Surfrider Florida Chapters Celebrate Our Coasts

Written by Katie Bauman | Aug 7, 2025 2:41:57 PM

With the mission to protect and enjoy the ocean, coast, and beaches for all, Surfrider’s Florida Chapters stay busy hosting clean-ups, testing local water quality, encouraging businesses to reduce single-use plastics, and advocating for strong laws for thriving coasts and communities. But we don’t forget the very important ENJOY aspect of our mission. We aim to infuse all of our efforts with joy and passion for the work we do – but sometimes it is nice to take a step back and dedicate time to celebrate the places we love together. This month, Surfrider’s Space Coast and Broward Chapters are doing just that with special events and opportunities to enjoy film screenings, live music, and good times with friends.

Surfrider Space Coast Chapter: Surfrider Movie Night
Saturday, August 9, 2025
6:00-9:00 pm
Surfside Playhouse (301 Ramp Rd., Cocoa Beach, FL 32931)
Tickets available here.

The Space Coast Chapter will be celebrating East Coast waves with live music and local surf films this Saturday at Surfside Playhouse. The evening will kick off with a showing of surf shots from local photographers and music from The Aquanuts, Cocoa Beach’s surf-roots band. Next up, two surf films showcasing local waves and legends. Home Cooked, by Sam Scribner and Jason Preskitt, spotlights the surf community of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Then, Swells of Interest, by Dr. Diana Wehrell Grabowski, explores memorable swells and the storms associated with them from 2008-2014. Featuring local surfers, breaks across Brevard, and weather insights from Surfline's Atlantic Operations Manager/Lead Forecaster Mike Watson, Swells of Interest has it all. Event proceeds benefit Surfrider’s Space Coast Chapter and support the Chapter’s water quality testing, Ocean Friendly Gardens, and other efforts for healthy coasts and communities.

"When you love a place, you protect it – and you take time to celebrate it,” said Nina Hunt, Chair of the Surfrider Space Coast Chapter. “We can’t wait to share this night with our community!"
