Congratulations to Helen Cross our August Volunteer of the Month! Helen is a CORE member and activist extraordinaire with the First Coast Chapter.
Since getting involved with the First Coast Chapter last year, Chair Paul Hayden reports that Helen has helped with, “everything and anything we needed help with! She has helped with beach cleanups, rallies, Black Tie & Baggies, our art auction, and has been to every meeting!”
Helen is passionate about protecting Florida’s coast from oil and gas exploration. She has attended and provided comments at multiple Bureau of Ocean Energy Management meetings in opposition to the recent proposal to open the Atlantic Coast to seismic airgun blasting.
Online registration for the 3rd Annual Regular Joe Surf Festival is now open and there are a couple of really good reasons to register early. First and foremost, Joe is capped at 96 participants. Once it’s full, it’s full. This let’s us guarantee that every entrant gets four full 20-minute heats over the two days of the contest, not to mention two good parties, a swag bag and a ton of fun.
The contest will be held September 12th & 13th in Sebastian Inlet with a backup date of September 19th and 20th.
If you register by August 31, you only pay $45, an incredible deal. On September 1, the price jumps to $65. And if you’re the kind of surfer who waits until the morning of the contest to see what the surf looks like before you commit, well, you’ll pay $75 for the privilege.
